ATS Road Trip: Ford DLC Launches Today With Four Ford Cars
Nearly a year and a half after SCS Software first announced Road Trip, the first part of it is here. The Road Trip: Ford DLC for American Truck Simulator launches today, September 29, on Steam. It is priced at $7.99 and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux.
The cars
Four Fords, each of which we followed through development:
| Car | Coverage |
|---|---|
| 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback | reveal, gameplay |
| 2023 Ford F-150 | reveal, gameplay |
| 2023 Ford Bronco | reveal |
| 1998–2012 Ford Crown Victoria | reveal, walk-around |
SCS says a dedicated team was put together for Road Trip, working with the vehicle team, programmers, testers and others across the studio. The studio also thanks Ford for its cooperation.
What the DLC unlocks
Buying the pack unlocks Car Mode, the new career that sits beside Truck Mode under the Mode Switch system, along with all four cars. From there:
- Customisation: accessories and paint, done in the garage as we described in our buying and configuring piece.
- Courier work: Quick Jobs and the Dispatch Market for smaller deliveries, building your courier reputation.
- Atlas: Tourist Boards, landmarks to learn about and postcards to collect. At release it covers California and the Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota DLCs, with the other states to follow in future updates. If you own the DLC, Atlas also works from a truck.
- Convoy: you can drive with friends, with trucks and cars sharing the road in the same session.
Release stream
SCS is marking the launch with a stream starting at 3 pm CEST (13:00 UTC). Guests who worked on the DLC will talk about its development while driving the Fords around ATS, and SCS says it will officially release the DLC together with viewers at the end of the stream.
What is next
This is only half of Road Trip. The second pack, Road Trip: RAM & Dodge, with the RAM 1500, Dodge Charger, Dodge Viper and Dodge Challenger, is still listed on Steam without a date.
Our take
For a small price, this is a big change to how ATS can be played. The cars are the headline, but Atlas and the courier jobs are what will decide how long players stay out of their trucks. Convoy support from day one is the detail many groups will care about most: a truck and a Mustang on the same stretch of Route 66 was simply not possible in ATS until now.
