ATS Road Trip: 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands Revealed

Three Fords down, one to go. After the Crown Victoria, the F-150 and the 1967 Mustang, SCS Software has now shown the last car in the Ford Car Pack up close: the 2023 Ford Bronco, and specifically the Badlands trim.

From 1960s 4x4 to sixth generation

SCS spends most of the post on the Bronco’s history. It launched in the mid-1960s as a 4x4, with more than 1.1 million built over 31 years of production, then disappeared for 25 years before returning in 2021. The car in the game is part of the sixth generation.

The studio’s summary of the modern Bronco is that it kept the boxy shape while gaining EcoBoost engines, G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any type of Terrain) modes and performance-focused suspension. That is a description of the real vehicle. SCS does not say which of those features, if any, will be modelled in the game, so we would not assume terrain modes are coming to ATS just yet.

Colours

What SCS does confirm is a set of factory-inspired paint options from the 2023 range, including:

  • Azure Gray
  • Cactus Gray
  • Eruption Green
  • Pepper Red
  • Velocity Blue
  • Yellowstone

The screenshots stick to a bright blue and a dark green, shown on forest tracks and dirt hills rather than tarmac.

Our take

The setting of the screenshots says more than the text. Mountains, pine trees and loose gravel: SCS is pitching the Bronco as the car for going off the main road, which fits the exploration focus the team talked about in January. Renju, who said then that he worked on the Bronco and the RAM 1500, has given it a convincing interior, judging by the seat close-up.

Unlike the Mustang post, this one carries no explicit work-in-progress note, though the screenshots are still marked as such. SCS thanks Ford for its support.
