ATS 1.62 Update Is Out: Route 66 Board, Volvo VNL Interior, Goodyear Refresh
Two weeks after the open beta, American Truck Simulator 1.62 is the live version on Steam. The changelog has the same five items it had in beta and it is a short one. How much it means to you depends mostly on which DLCs you own.
What you get, by what you own
| If you have | 1.62 gives you |
|---|---|
| The base game | The Volvo VNL in AI traffic and a longer Escape radio station |
| The All-New 2025 Volvo VNL in your garage | Improved interior materials and lighting |
| The Goodyear Tires Pack | Paint jobs with the company’s current logo and slightly adjusted colours |
| Road Trip: Ford and the matching map DLCs | New Tourist Boards and a postcard for each one you complete |
| Every map expansion on Route 66 | The full Route 66 board, with its postcard and air freshener |
Atlas grows, if you have the states
Most of the update is for Road Trip: Ford owners. Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Washington and Louisiana get one new Tourist Board each and Nebraska gets two. That is eleven boards, and we have a breakdown of how they work from when SCS first described them.
The Route 66 Cross-Border board is the one to plan around. It marks the road’s 100th anniversary and runs through Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. Missing a state does not lock you out: you can still visit the locations in the states you own. The postcard and the Route 66 air freshener are stricter, though. Those need every map expansion on the route and every location visited.
The VNL, inside and out
SCS keeps moving truck interiors to its Improved Material System, and the All-New 2025 Volvo VNL is the latest. The work is about how the different cab materials react to light. The same truck now also turns up in AI traffic.
Goodyear and the radio
The Goodyear Tires Pack paint jobs now match the company’s updated branding, which is a small change unless you run one of them.
The radio change matters more than its one line in the changelog suggests, at least for anyone who streams. Escape is the only stream-safe station in the game. SCS has taken out the tracks that were causing copyright problems and added 11 new songs, so the playlist now runs closer to the length of the other stations.
If you were on the beta
The update is now on the regular branch. To leave the beta, go to Properties, then Game Versions & Betas for American Truck Simulator in Steam and switch back to the default version. Mods built for the previous version may need their own updates, so check yours before you load a heavily modded profile.
Our take
There is not much here for someone who only drives trucks in the base game. The useful part is what it says about Atlas: three weeks after the Ford DLC launched, SCS described the first expansion, and two weeks later it has shipped. If you own most of the American map, 1.62 is a good reason to take a car out for an evening.
