American Truck Simulator 1.62 Update Open Beta: More Tourist Boards

The 1.62 update for American Truck Simulator is now in open beta. It is not one of the larger patches SCS Software has shipped, but its headline feature is aimed squarely at people who bought the Ford DLC. Truck drivers get something too, mostly in the cab of one particular Volvo.

Road Trip: more Tourist Boards

We covered this in detail yesterday, so here is the short version. Atlas expands to more map DLCs with one new Tourist Board each in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas, Washington and Louisiana, plus two in Nebraska. Every completed board gives a postcard.

There is also a new Route 66 Cross-Border Tourist Board for the road’s 100th anniversary, with locations across Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California. You can explore the parts in the states you own, but the postcard and a Route 66 air freshener need every one of those map expansions and every location visited.

Volvo VNL interior gets the new materials

SCS continues rolling out its Improved Material System to truck interiors. This time it is the All-New 2025 Volvo VNL, with better lighting and closer attention to how the different interior materials respond to light. Vehicle technical leader Daniel said in January, when SCS introduced the Road Trip team, that the improved interior materials began as part of Road Trip and would be carried over to the main games. The VNL is one more truck to benefit.

The same VNL is also being added to AI traffic, so expect to see more of them on the road.

Goodyear paint jobs and a cleaner radio station

The Goodyear Tires Pack paint jobs are being updated to the company’s current branding, with the latest logo and slightly adjusted colours.

The other change is for streamers. Escape, the only stream-safe station in the in-game radio, has had tracks with copyright problems removed and 11 new songs added. SCS says the longer playlist now runs closer to the length of its other stations.

Changelog

  • Map: Road Trip Tourist Boards update
  • Vehicles: Improved Material System for the All-New 2025 Volvo VNL

How to join the beta

In Steam, right-click American Truck Simulator in your library, open Properties, go to Game Versions & Betas and pick public_beta. You may need to restart Steam before the branch appears.

SCS asks testers to report bugs in the dedicated section of its forums. As always with an open beta, expect bugs and possible crashes, and it is fine to wait for the full release. Mod users should check the modding wiki first.

Our take

For non-Road Trip players this is a light update, and the VNL interior is the main draw. For anyone with the Ford DLC, the extra boards are the first sign that Atlas will keep growing after launch, as SCS promised.
