ATS Road Trip: First Look at the 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback

The oldest car in the Ford Car Pack finally has its own spotlight. SCS Software has published its first detailed look at the 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback, the classic of the four Ford models heading to American Truck Simulator’s Road Trip module.

Why the ‘67

SCS describes 1967 as a defining year for the car: it was when the Mustang grew more aggressive, with a wider stance and more engine. The studio frames it as the car that turned the Mustang into a performance machine you could still drive every day, which is a fair description of what Road Trip wants from its cars. The fastback roofline does a lot of the work in the screenshots.

Paint, trims and seats

This is where the post gets specific. The Mustang will come in factory-inspired exterior colours, among them Lime Gold, Acapulco Blue, Dark Moss Green, Silver Frost, Burgundy and Candy Apple Red, with more on the list.

Inside, there is a choice of interior trims: Black, Red, Saddle, Parchment, Ivy Gold, and Dark and Light Aqua. Seating can be luxury bucket seats or ComfortWeave insert seats. All of it sits in the Deluxe interior with brushed aluminium accents. The screenshots show a black interior and a two-tone aqua one, and both look period-correct.

There is no word yet on engines. When SCS asked the community for help last year, it was looking for a 1967 Mustang with the 390 Thunderbird Special V8, but this post does not confirm what goes under the hood.

Work in progress

SCS calls the car the 1967 Ford Mustang GT Fastback in its note and says it is still a work in progress, with both exterior and interior being refined.

The reference came from several places. Ford helped source a classic Mustang during the visit to the USA, Toman Motors s.r.o. gave access to its car for detailed reference, and Veteráni na Truc, the classic car specialist from the Charger episode, let SCS record the engine. Vehicle artist Martin, who said when the team was introduced that he had spent a lot of time studying this car, had plenty to work from.

Our take

Of the four Fords, this is the one that most needs to be right, and the colour and trim list is a good sign that SCS is treating it as a proper period car rather than a generic classic. We would still like to hear it before passing judgement.
