ATS Road Trip: What Players and Creators Make of the Ford DLC

A month after the Road Trip: Ford DLC went on sale, SCS Software has handed its blog over to the players. The new community spotlight collects YouTube videos, comments from three content creators and a handful of screenshots from social media. It is a promotional piece, of course, but it also gives a first read on how cars have landed with a community that has spent a decade in trucks.

Five videos to start with

SCS picked five creator videos that cover most of what the DLC offers: relaxed drives, postcard hunting with Atlas and courier work. The Mustang gets the most attention, which will surprise nobody who watched the gameplay preview in July.

The sceptics came round

The more interesting part is what the three creators wrote. Two of them admit they had doubts when Road Trip was announced, and none of the three has doubts now.

Krewlex remembers the announcement leaving players split between optimism and confusion, and now calls Road Trip a good addition that opens a new avenue for ATS. He has two postcards already and plans to collect the rest over the coming months. His favourite car for now is the Mustang, mainly for its engine note, which he likes enough to rev it while standing still. He also praises the sound of all four cars and the customisation options.

DaSimSimma questioned the idea at first and says time in the Mustang turned that around. He is honest that the parcel runs did not grip him the way trucking does. Driving and exploring with Atlas did, though, and the different seating height, speeds and handling made familiar roads feel new. “Roads I already knew felt different,” he wrote.

My Over-The-Road Trucking Adventure, a former real-life truck driver, was the least keen of the three. He did not see the point of cars in a truck simulator and only realised shortly before launch that the DLC was more than that. The Dispatch Market gave him a delivery system he had not expected, and Tourist Boards let him do the sightseeing he never had time for while driving a real truck. He has a few postcards and wants the full set.

Screenshots from social media

The last part of the post is a selection of player shots tagged on X, Bluesky, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other platforms. SCS also thanks players who have left Steam reviews and asks for more.

Our take

Three hand-picked creators praising a DLC is not a survey. Still, the pattern in their comments matches what we expected from the previews: Atlas and the simple pleasure of driving are carrying Road Trip, and the courier jobs are a side dish. With 1.62 adding more Tourist Boards, that is probably the right half of the DLC to keep investing in.
