ETS 2 Coaches: Destination Displays, Split Sun Visors and a Rear Camera

Destination Displays, Split Sun Visors and a Rear Camera

Coaches come with equipment trucks do not have, and SCS Software has now shown what it built for the Coaches DLC in Euro Truck Simulator 2. None of these features is huge on its own, but together they make the driver’s seat feel like a coach rather than a truck with seats behind it.

Destination display

The panel at the top of the windscreen shows the coach’s final stop. It is a removable accessory, so you can leave it off if you prefer, and it can be seen from inside as well. SCS says it tuned the text length, colour and other details so it works for all the destinations in the game.

Split sun visors

Coach windscreens are much bigger than truck ones, so low sun is a real problem. On coaches that support it, the sun visor is split into left and right halves that move independently. They are visible from outside, have animated controls and come with sound effects.

Rear-view camera

Judging the back of a 14-metre vehicle by mirrors alone is hard, so the coaches get a reversing camera. The feed appears on the dashboard and replaces the navigation screen automatically when you select reverse. Since SCS has tried to make stations and stops as realistic as possible, tight spots included, this one will probably be used a lot.

Interior lighting

There are two lighting options for the passenger area:

  • Ambient lighting in a colour you choose
  • The main ceiling light, switched on and off with a button, useful when passengers board or leave at night

Small things, real difference

These are the details coach drivers deal with every day, and it is good to see SCS treat them as part of the gameplay. The rear camera in particular fits the warnings we have heard about tricky stations with little room to manoeuvre.
