With the Euro Truck Simulator 2 – 1.53 update, the highly anticipated Volvo FH Series 4 truck is being refreshed. Five cities in Germany, including the capital Berlin, are being rebuilt. The update also includes automatic camera centering and some interface improvements.

You can provide feedback and report any issues in the SCS forum section created for the 1.53 update.

Germany Rework

The Germany rework project concludes with the 1.53 update, which brings the rebuild of Berlin, Munich, Mannheim, Leipzig, and Dresden. The SCS team has successfully raised all cities and highways in Germany to DLC-level standards. Each city and its surroundings, including famous landmarks, have been meticulously rebuilt with great detail.

Volvo FH Series 4 Rework

With the 1.53 update, the Volvo FH Series 4 truck is being completely refreshed after many years. The new Volvo FH truck was actually announced around two years ago, with the first phase including an updated version of the old truck model. The SCS team designed the renewed version of the older model using CAD data, making the model dimensions and other details much closer to reality. Various fenders, bumpers, spoilers, and other details were also revised. The cockpit textures and materials have been updated to match new Volvo standards.

The Volvo FH Tuning Pack DLC is also receiving an update, with all parts now compatible with the new changes. Additionally, a 25th Anniversary livery for the Volvo FH has been added. Further improvements may come throughout the open beta, and you can submit your feedback here.

When will the new Volvo FH arrive? The SCS team has not made any announcements. However, we are likely to see the new truck after 1.53 is completed.

Options QoL improvement

Improvements continue in the options menu following the new interface update. When changing an option with a default value, players will now see a visual indicator whenever a setting is adjusted or moved from its default state. Options set away from their default values will now appear with a small indicator next to the setting, making it easier to identify which settings have been changed from the default.

Smooth and Auto Camera Centring

With the 1.53 update, Automatic Camera Centering is coming to ETS 2. Players can now activate this new option, which automatically centers the camera after moving it, with various settings. For example, automatic centering can be set to durations between 1 to 5 seconds. If you turn the camera to the right with your mouse, it will automatically center back to the rear of the vehicle after 3 seconds. You can also set it to recenter instantly, quickly, moderately, or slowly. Players using head-tracking devices can disable this feature entirely, and it doesn’t come enabled by default after installing the update.

It has only been a short time since we last released an update for our truck simulator titles, however we are happy to share with you that a new testing cycle for the Open Beta branch for Euro Truck Simulator 2 has started.

This first iteration of the Open Beta only has a few of the handful of updates we wanted to bring with 1.43. Because of busy production schedule before Christmas, quite a few of the other features and/or updates did not make it in time for this first release. However, we plan on bringing these later on during the Open Beta. We will be sure to let you know when they do arrive.

Please keep in mind that this Open Beta is a work-in-progress build. If you plan on participating in this Open Beta, you can contribute by reporting any bugs you may encounter in the appropriate section(s) of our official forums. Your feedback and reports are extremely valuable for our team and we thank you in advance for taking the time to help us out.

So, without further ado, let’s take a look at what the first iteration of the 1.43 Open Beta has in store!

Lyon Reskin

As previously mentioned in a dedicated blog, we are happy to share with you one of our latest reskin projects in Euro Truck Simulator 2. The city of Lyon in France will be receiving a major reskin, giving it a fresh and up-to-date look. So what exactly has been changed? Let’s take a closer look!

As you can see from these comparison shots, a lot has changed! In fact, a majority of the city layout has been reworked to make it more realistic and true to life. We have now also updated these areas to include the routes that truckers actually use to enter and exit Lyon and its surrounding industrial areas. We have also added 3 new Landmarks significant to the city.

Many of the older vegetation models such as trees and wildflowers have been replaced with newer ones, which gives the city a completely new look in terms of natural beauty. Road signs and roads, in general, have also been updated with more accurate, realistic, and detailed textures. While many of the major changes are quite obvious, we will leave it up to you to explore Lyon for yourself to spot them all!

Tollgate Updates

Tollgates will also be receiving a revisit in this update. Our teams have revisited a majority of the tolls throughout Euro Truck Simulator 2 to update and apply fixes to speed limits, road signage and other minor adjustments. While this isn’t a complete overhaul or redesign, we hope that this update (and future ones too) will bring a smoother experience when passing through the many tollgates that can be found across Europe.

Unfortunately, we didn’t make it round to all of the tollgates in time for this Open Beta, so expect this update to be continued in future game versions too.

Viewpoints

As previously announced in a blogpost, we are happy to share that viewpoints arriving in Euro Truck Simulator 2! There will be a total 35 new viewpoints added across already released ETS2 locations in this update.

From cities and ports to industrial areas, there will be a lot of reasons to revisit some of the older locations and see them from a different perspective. If you’d like to know a couple of more precise examples, you will be able to find new viewpoints focused on landmarks such as Cernavodă Bridge or Viaduct Poiana Teiului.

We can’t wait for you to take a look at these new additions to the ever-expanding world of ETS2. New Iberia Roads

From the scorching temperatures of the Tabernas Desert to the bustling city of Madrid, Iberia has been a popular destination for truckers since its release in April. Based on feedback from our community since its launch, our map team thought it’d be good to revisit the map expansion and bring some new additional content.

1.43 for ETS2 brings new country roads alongside the many highways of Iberia for you to use and explore. So where will be these new roads located? The first new addition can be found north of Madrid, linking together the A-1 and A-2 highways. The second new road can be found in the south of Portugal, starting near the city of Sines, passing by the city of Beja and ending in Spain, just above Seville.

When we first wrote about these new additions, one road was not yet finished, so we were unable to share it with you; however, it is now ready for the Open Beta! We are happy to share that a small stretch of the A-52 connecting Vigo and Leon has now been completed and is ready for you to travel on. Be sure to take a drive and take in the beautiful views of the local region.

These new roads will not only provide truckers with alternative routes whilst out on delivery, but also more beautiful scenery and areas to explore in Iberia! We hope you’ll enjoy this new and free additional content that is coming to the Iberia expansion!

New Special Transport Routes

We are happy to announce that the small team responsible for the Special Transport DLC has found the time to bring new routes across previously released map expansions in Euro Truck Simulator 2.

All in all, there will be an addition of 8 new Special Transport routes and each will feature multiple missions. The new routes are:

Ownable Dumpers

We are happy to announce that Dumpers Trailers are now ownable and fully customizable! These trailers are used for transporting bulk materials and depending on their length are best suitable for different cargos.

In Euro Truck Simulator 2, Dumper Trailers will have 2 customizable body types. These are aluminium and steel. Both of them are available in two different lengths (9m or 10m) and with 2 or 3 axles. Short dumpers are best for ‘heavy cargoes’ such as soil gravel, sand. Long dumpers are best for light cargoes such as barley, wheat, wood bark and metal scrap.

Want to customize your Dumper Trailer? You will be able to add and modify some of the accessories on them including, markers, rear bumpers, front and rear mudflaps, front and rear fenders and paintjobs.

Interior Cabin Sound Update

In this update we have also implemented a new sound effect which simulates sound attenuation from surrounding environment noises, as well as the sound of the truck engine and wheels. Since each truck has a different sound insulation, our sound team has simulated this with the use of sound equalization and reverb effects.

Put simply, interior truck cab sounds have been updated to better simulate how engine, wheel and other exterior sounds are dampened when driving from a first person view.

This is just the first iteration of this update, as in the future we plan to bring more accurate attenuation simulation by the size of the truck cab. This update has been applied to all trucks in both Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator.

New SDF Fonts

Another new feature coming along with 1.43 is the use of SDF (Signed Distance Fields) fonts in-game. So how exactly does this affect the game? This font technique allows texts and fonts to be displayed perfectly in any resolution, scale, or from any distance.

Instead of fonts being displayed like a picture, which can become distorted when on a smaller resolution or zoomed in on from a far distance, SDF fonts can be adjusted to any size and remain perfectly clear and sharp for the user.

In the first iteration of this update, we are bringing this new font technique to the game’s UI. This also in turn improves the clarity and resolution of the Convoy name tags, GPS, License Plates, and Truck Dashboards. We hope you can clearly see the difference when you see them.

New Visual Lighting System

One of the biggest changes you’ll notice when you first hop into your truck cab is the implementation of our new visual lighting system. However, this isn’t just a simple change of our skyboxes; our new light system is fully dynamic and can now change not just according to current weather, but also based on simulated camera exposure taking into account not just current daylight intensity and weather, but also surface properties of game world elements in the view.

This new light system and the start of our new physical light model is a very important step towards a complete and better physical model of the whole world in our game, and how real it looks and works. All of our lighting is now based on real physical ratios and units, to make it as realistic as possible.

To prepare for this new light system, our teams had to make a lot of changes to existing in-game world objects; including a majority of the in-game assets, textures, and materials to better work with the new physical model of the new light system.

We are very excited for you to be able to experience and immerse yourself in driving in the new light. The result is the combination of thousands of hours by our programmers and visual effect artists and many other teams involved in the creation process of this new system.

During this open beta, your feedback is incredibly important and valuable to us, so we ask that you please submits yours to us in the 1.40 section for American Truck Simulator on our forums which you can find here.

Extended Chassis update:

For the 5th anniversary of American Truck Simulator, we wanted to bring a heavily-requested feature to our community to celebrate its progress and journey so far! This suggestion has always frequently appeared in our suggestions pile, and today we are thrilled to bring you an extended chassis range to all current truck models.

Our vehicle team has worked hard to bring you a range of long and short chassis types, allowing you to customize your truck for the job at hand. This update will feature 4×2, 8×4, and 8×6 chassis types which are used for a range of different trailers.

4x2s, also known as single-axle trucks, are frequently used for local distribution deliveries by supermarkets and by logistic companies for hauling doubles. 8×4 and 8×6 chassis are the big guns of the heavy-haul industry and can handle just about any load you decide to take on. All of these new options bring more variety to you, the driver! So we hope you enjoy this surprise addition to 1.40.

Western Star 49X Update:

With the exciting release of the Western Star® 49X in September 2020, we are happy to share with you that with the arrival of 1.40 for American Truck Simulator; the 49X will receive 2 sleeper cabin options as well as a lot of other new options. In fact, this truck just became the one with the most chassis options available, with up to 36 possible chassis/cabin/fuel-tank combinations.

We have just finished covering and showing the options which are coming for this truck in our special live stream on Twitch, Steam, and YouTube. Don’t fret if you’ve missed it, as you can always watch it again on our official YouTube channel. Additionally, we will be releasing a dedicated blog post in the near future with more information, images, and also a very cool video; be sure to keep an eye out for it!

New Mexico & Oregon DLC Viewpoints

Back in October last year, American Truck Simulator saw the arrival of viewpoints to the states of Washington and Utah after their popular debut in Idaho! Today we are happy to share with you that 1.40 sees the introduction of new viewpoints to the states of New Mexico & Oregon.

For newer players of our titles, Viewpoints are certain spots found across the map, where drivers can activate a special in-game cutscene with a short showcase of a near location or place of interest. These can be found displayed as a grey question mark on your GPS, so be sure to stop and discover them on your journeys.

You also have the option to skip the viewpoint or replay it if you wish to watch it again. From populated cities to historic monuments, each viewpoint highlights a point of interest or industry, so make sure to discover them all!

LAUNCHPAD UPDATE

One of the first things you may notice when you launch Euro Truck Simulator 2 with the 1.39 Open Beta is a redesign of the current launchpad. The main reason why we are introducing this change is to pave the way for a future addition, which will introduce new features to our games that are accessed through the launchpad.

Until then, however, you can see that the design has changed quite significantly. The profile selected at the top now affects all other options and managers found on the launchpad. This applies not only to the Mod Manager but especially to the new addition which we have placed here, Game Options.

This allows you to change your game settings without even having to load the game. So if you’re just looking to tweak your game before streaming on Twitch or adjusting a few options before heading into your truck, it can all be done from the launchpad screen.

This is just the first iteration of the Launchpad design which is subject to changes and tuning throughout the Open Beta period. If you have any feedback to give about this design, please let us know at our official forum category.

LOW-BED & LOW-LOADER TRAILERS

As we previously announced in a recent blog, new Lowbed & Low-Loader Trailers will be arriving at Euro Truck Simulator 2. These trailers have been reworked from the ground up, offering drivers the option to purchase them and use them in an array of different jobs including High Power Cargo Pack, and the Heavy Cargo DLC’s.

Low-bed and low-loader trailers now come in two main versions – short and extended, plus they now have customizable chassis which can affect their suitability for heavy cargoes. You will now also be able to adjust and tune them up with multiple new options like colors, rear bumpers, and banners, markers, lights, ramps, side protectors, multiple versions of side/toolboxes, beacons, strobes, mud-flaps, and more! Every single one of these new options had to be adjusted properly for each of these new trailers, to be sure that they fit perfectly!

This major update affects not only the base game of ETS2, but also a lot of other DLCs such as the Heavy Cargo Pack, High Power Cargo Pack, Schwarzmüller DLC, and Special Transport.

CITY OF CALAIS RESKIN

Introducing the port of Calais, the fourth-largest port in France and the busiest for passenger traffic. Its industry accounts for more than a third of economic activity in the local area. As many of you may know, Calais is one of our base game cities which was released with Euro Truck Simulator 2.

As such, a dedicated part of our map team has taken time to give the city and port a major reskin, giving it a fresh and up-to-date look for 1.39. The biggest change you will notice is how the port is now represented in-game. In reality, Calais port is huge and so our map team has worked hard to best reflect that reality within the confines of our map scale. This newly recreated port will feature new assets including gates, terminals, ramps for ferries, and fences.

Other changes include updates to the port entrance and surrounding city areas which have been redesigned to correspond more correctly to reality now. You can read more in detail about this free update to Calais in this blogpost.

GENERAL BUG FIXES/SOUND CHANGES

1.39 also features various bug fixes, improvements, and an update to sounds. This includes, but is not limited to, improved interior cab sound mixing and other changes in preparation for new and upcoming content.

While a majority of the changes in 1.39 are not seen visually in this version, we look forward to bringing you more content and changes in the near future.
