ETS 2 – Iberia: Rocks & Vegetation

From semi-arid southeastern deserts to the green coniferous forests, the Iberian Peninsula is home to rich and diverse landscapes. To best represent the climates and biomes in Spain and Portugal, our dedicated research, vegetation, and graphics teams have worked closely together to create an accurate variety of Flora in our upcoming Iberia expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2.

As you may have guessed, the majority of the Iberian Peninsula consists of a much drier climate than we are used to seeing across the rest of mainland Europe. To best represent the drier and warmer climates, our graphic artists have created new grass textures, dry variants of these, rock textures, and desert materials.

New models of trees including cypresses, palms, pines, dry shrubs, (as mentioned in previous blogs) olive trees, orange trees, and cork trees were also created for the upcoming DLC, to bring a variety of vegetation that exists across Spain and Portugal.

However, Iberia isn’t just all desert and flat land! It may come as a surprise to some of you to find out that the peninsula is actually very rocky, so our team has created both new rock textures and models. Map designers are taking advantage of our new tools and of the fantastic work of the art team on procedurally generated rocks. This allows them to create varying rock faces along a defined curve, which will be showcased for the first time in our upcoming DLC.

You will also find that Iberia is very colourful! Much like you would see in various U.S states, Spain and Portugal feature different coloured soil and rocks. From red, yellow, and even sometimes grey, our team has done their best to capture the unique colours of each area across this enormous peninsula.

We also wanted to provide the community with a short update regarding Iberia for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Our map teams are still working hard on adding details and more to this enormous expansion, which will then need to go through various testing phases before its release. Once we reach this stage, we will be more confident in announcing a release date for this highly anticipated DLC.

We know that many of you are very excited for the release of Iberia, so make sure to keep an eye on our social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) for our live-stream announcements, as we plan to hopefully visit this region in the near future. ETS 2 Iberia: Tollgates & Toll Roads screenshots and new light

Spain and Portugal have an excellent and fast motorway network which spans the entire peninsula, and in comparison to other European countries, it has very few motorway tolls. However, you may still find yourself travelling on a toll road or coming across a toll plaza when driving across our upcoming Iberia DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Any driver and their wallet traveling across Europe would be very familiar with paying tolls, especially in countries such as France, but there is a good reason behind them. Toll roads give road users the option to drive on a better maintained, less busy, and more often than not, a faster route to their destination. However, these roads can rack up quite the bill when you’re doing a lot of driving in a day.

The Iberia DLC will feature an array of different toll booth designs and technologies, from the slower traditional tolls with barriers, to the latest in toll road technology; overhead cameras reading every vehicle’s tags without them needing to slow down!

We look forward to sharing more about Iberia with you soon, but until then, please keep in mind that the images and visual lighting you see featured in this post are still in a work in progress state and may not represent the final released product.

Iberia: Iconic Landmarks has been introduced for ETS 2

When creating new areas in an upcoming DLC, landmark models play an important role in adding to the authenticity and immersion of a driver’s experience. For many, these points of interest are important locations, especially when you want to confirm your location. Today, we are happy to share with you a gallery of iconic landmarks from our upcoming Iberia DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Landmarks can be found in all shapes and sizes, from medieval castles to statues of historical figures, and Iberia is full of them! Heading to the south-east of Spain, you may come across the Alcazaba of Almería, one of the largest castles in the country constructed in 955AD. Standing high on a hill, this fortress serves as an important monument to the city.

Aqueducts and viaducts are landmarks that one might not consider interesting, but some of these bridges have been standing for hundreds of years and continue to serve as an important landmark for travellers.

While it is not easy to decide on a list of landmarks to include in our upcoming DLC (from the hundreds or thousands that exist across the peninsula of Iberia in reality), we hope you will be able to recognize and admire the ones chosen and recreated in detail by our talented art team.
